The betting company Unibet has decided to appeal against its conviction for illegally offering online gaming in Belgium. The Criminal Court of Brussels earlier this year ordered the company to pay a fine of 75,000 euros, of which half is suspended.

Unibet maintains, however, it did not get the chance to argue against the substance of the case, even though it ought to have. The court will fully reflect on the actions of the Gambling Commission and the Public Prosecutor referring to a serious infringement of the rights of the defense.

Unibet adds that the ruling is contrary to European law and not consistent with Belgian law, which the company says raises a number of questions concerning the ruling.
