Brussels is likely to take further steps again this Wednesday against the monopoly on gaming in the Netherlands that The Lotto and Holland Casino enjoy.

The European Commission will examine on Wednesday if the Netherlands will be taken to the European Court of Justice regarding the gaming laws and licences.

Last April the Executive Committee of the European Union began a so-called infringement enquiry because the Dutch gaming policy would be contrary to EU rules. The Lotto has a monopoly just like state-owned Holland Casino.

Maastricht wants to put an end to the state-owned Holland Casino which is a combination of casino, theatre, convention centre, hotel, shops and entertainment services.
