Former Italian international Signori arrested in gambling probe

The Italian police have arrested a suspected gang of fraudsters from the gambling world, among them the Italian ex-soccer player Giuseppe "Beppe" Signori. Besides the former international, fifteen other people were arrested. Signori and eight others are under house arrest, while nine persons were taken into police custody.

The Prosecutor from Cremona said that a total of thirty persons are the lead suspects regarding fixed matches from the second and third divisions. They are thought to have bet large sums of money both in Italy and abroad on the matches.

The 43-year-old former striker who played for Lazio Roma, Bologna and Sampdoria was also an Italian International between 1992 and 1995l. The Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport also reported that Gianfranco Parlato, a player from Serie B club Ascoli, was arrested.
